Doctors can now edit genes inside your body. Last year, regulators approved the world’s first medicine using Crispr, which worked by extracting cells, editing them in a lab and returning them to the patient. Today, new experimental therapies labeled ‘in-vivo’ gene editing aim to treat genetic disorders by editing cells directly inside a patient’s body. If successful, this approach could be cheaper and reach more people than external methods. However, ‘in-vivo’ editing carries the risk of accidentally editing an unrelated gene, and scientists are yet to discover how to deliver internal gene editors to many parts of the body.
The National Association of Realtors, an organization that has set the guidelines for home sales for decades, has agreed in a landmark deal to eliminate the standard 6% sales commission. Today, Americans pay ~$100Bn in real estate commissions annually. Housing experts believe that the deal will lead to significant savings for consumers, and could trigger one of the most significant jolts in the U.S. housing market in the past 100 years.
Young adults in GenZ have emerged from the pandemic feeling more disillusioned than any generation before them. When asked about their confidence in public institutions, GenZ exhibits lower faith than older cohorts at the same points in their lives, and stands out for their pessimism and comparatively lower expectations. According to a 2020 study, epidemics leave a lasting impression on young people, resulting in a lack of confidence in political institutions and their leaders.
